When I heard the news today I was sad. And, when I mentioned RAW's passing to my co-workers and they didn't know who he was I was dissappointed. But, when I came here and saw how many people have left comments I felt that there is hope for the world.

RAW woke me from the illusions of society, through his words, and to his credit, by explaining the words and works of others.

Thank you, Uncle Bob.

I'm actually sad. I suppose it was bound to happen.
I would like to thank him for his sincerity. He was a good writer but more so a compiler of others writings and thoughts. He did like the rest and complied them and added to them, then gave them to us.
He was a great philosopher, I feel lucky to have been exposed to his writings and thoughts.

Peace, you will live forever.

Always.

Still gonna miss ya though. :(

Thank you from my head & heart.

To those who are suriviving Bob, my deepest condolences. As readers, we had a conceptualized, idealized wise old (sometimes dirty) uncle who taught us how we might think for ourselves, and that maybe people who tell you how to think could be full of bullshit. As such, we "loved" a half-imaginary figure that probably resembled the guy you actually loved.

I know that I feel an awful pang, knowing that my phantom impression of this man (if you will) isn't around in the world-- I can only imagine the cold knife it must be for you. And also the relief, I suppose, to know that he is no longer suffering any pain, and seemed content and OK with dying.

Please know that your Bob was so very cherished by so many people who never even met him. That's a rare feat.

Be well and celebrate him as well as mourn.

I've never left a comment on this site before. I swear, by whatever it is that agnostics swear by, that I had a dream just before waking on 01/11 (roughly 5am CST), where I was having a conversation with Bob (the details of which I'm straining to remember now). I never met or spoke with him in the waking world, and never before in my dreams.

Heyl Bob !
I know you're dead
But you live on
Deep in my head
And in the books
On my shelf
Providing me
With mental wealth
For free I add
Be free I say
The answers easy
To bob I pray
OH great modest boB
You're now a star
Born elsewhere
The door is a jar
The window's open
The spirit is free
This is represented
With twentythree
A real number
That does not exist
In which contains
The final twist
Hail Eris, Hail Ceasar
Hail, sleet and snow
Oh RAW you're a legend
Thank you and bye.

Yeah so anyway, that's for the dead bloke.. nice one for everything... almost everything I think and do has been influenced by this or the other Bob so I bow and fart simultaneously as I say goodbye.

What can I possibly say about Bob that has not been duly noted? His sheer luminous brilliance mixed with wild, high humor not only confirmed some of my more esoteric suspicions but also my dedication to the whole Merry Prankster ethic..."Blow thier minds, kids, and make 'em THINK!" Which of course fit in perfectly with Discordianism once I found out about that.
Bob's words flipped switches in my software that will never be turned off. All of us who were blessed by his laughing wisdom will carry it for the rest of our lives, and the ripples created by the metaphorical rocks he threw will continue to dance across the water of life and far into the future.
Nobody on this Earth ever fucked with my head in a more delightful way. Thank You, Bob. Come back and visit anytime!

Got the news Today (12th). When I heard the man was sick, I decided to read The Schrodinger's Cat Trilogy. On the 11th, I put the book down after these words:

"Starhawk moved quickly to a new perch. Carefully, he pulled up his trouser leg, tore the adhesive tape, and took a pistol from his calf. He was not smiling now."

First words read on the 12th were:

"Cheese"(Chapter heading)"Robert Pearson said "Shee-it" in a tone of profound skepticism."

Keep that skeptic eye open all the way to the Source, Bob. I'll keep reading to see what you find when you get there.

Earlier today I recieved a txt msg from my dear cohort and associate PF, while I was in biology [the science of life] that ol' Bobby Wilson had passed. I must say that it is encouraging to know that one man can positively influence so many people. You are a star, bob. I'd suggested travelling to see you a month or so back, but didn't have the funds. I knew you'd be leaving us soon, but didn't expect it to be quite this soon. Know that you are joining the ranks of angels and bodhisattvas and that some of us who thought of you as a central figure in our personal mythologies will be placing our pen where yours left off. With so many stupid schmucks in the world, it is truly sad to lose a rational intellectual such as yourself. I'm glad that you and your wife are reunited at last. All the best.

Now after a decade of protest marchs, mediatation, acid trips, magic rituals, philosophy classes (where I'm the f**king teacher), movies, comic books, Fortean Times, science, evolution, computers, economics ect.... I can honestly say :
You were the mentor who brought me to the gates of Castle Perilous, smiled, and said: "See you on the other side! Hail Eris!"

Alot of us here can say this. You gave us the courage and example to be the humans we are now. And we are Legion. Even in the darkest recesses of the Black Iron Prison your star shone bright.

Your writings have taught me to look behind everyday "reality" and to abandon the concepts of true and false, subject and object, good and bad...

You have given me so much!

Farewell!

I hope all those you've inspired over the years, all those you made open their eyes for the first time live up to your hopes.

Say hi to Eris for me, and tell her we'll take good care of her apple.

Goodbye my friend, the world becomes a little darker at your passing.

I've tried writing 4 posts already, and nothing seems to sound right. How exactly do you say goodbye to a mentor, father, and the best bobdamn mindfucker to enter a reality tunnel ever?

Thank you for all you've meant to the Terrans on the 3rd furthest planet from another non-descript star near the outskirts of the Milky Way Galaxy. Every time I notice a synchronicity from here on, I'll know you're the one manning the Coincidence Generator...

Tell Tim and Hunter to get us a table at the pub and we'll meet up for drinks, time and date to be decided.

HAIL BOB!

Man...what a dude.

I got sober and read the book Alcoholics Anonymous, and, The Illuminatus Trilogy!.

One book saved me from myself. The other saved me from my own bullshit (and yours).

Both books saved my life.

From there I lept into R.A.W.'s other books, some Tim Leary, etc., etc.

I owe Mr. Wilson a tremendous debt of gratitude for helping me understand a spec or two more about me, and you.

ALL HAIL DISCORDIA!

I have the Ode to Joy playing once again as I try to come to terms with this loss. I think he helped to tilt our reality toward a variety of utopias and away from various sorts of oblivion. It seems reality needs all of us right now, sitting, standing or whatever, to choose life, humor, intelligence and compassion, etc. Bob made such choices easier, and his creative visions will continue to make such choices easier, and clearer, and funnier.

Hilaritas et amor, my friend.

Sing Your Thing!
Share Your Love!

RAW in peace

Don't cry. Don't cry. Is it shooting stars or my misty eyes.
Lo he's gone on and left us all here.
Beyond pain and and beyond fear. I hope. We hope.
For no end except to hurt. That we're more than raised from dirt.
That the questions that burn us all, no answers given yet we heard his call.

To stand tall. To love because not just despite. To ask always first before you fight.
To push evolution forward, to spit in oblivion's eye. To curse all the gods of men who
took our sight.

You said you still held onto Arlen. Imprinted in your nervous system. Every thought
you provoked, every smile and belly laugh that shook, every tear you made me choke. To think
that giants of men could be broke. To see you weakened it took my heart. To know yours still
beat against the tide. Like seeing my grandfather wasted by time. It devastated me. And yet.
Every time you said yes when they said no. Every defiant footstep you willed. How could I not
continue to fight.

I saw you young. I saw you old. I'll see you when I've gone cold. I'll do it for them. I'll do it for
you. I'll give it all up. I'll see it through. Burning ones rise to resist the fall. You shined so bright
and passed on your light. A long chain succession. Another profound impression. A circle connected us inspired from one to another. My sons will be your brothers. As memes supersede slow genes proceed. We'll carry your fight - our fight onto our shoulders. Yours like boulders. Lifted. Gifted. Us with the will to heed. The hardest path. I won't be a stone. I'll push and defy. Even when I'm empty and have no more tears to cry. Even when I drift you'll be in my sky. I'll pass on your wisdom, maybe even find some of my own. Maybe one day, the warriors wish, like you I'll find home. Where there are no warriors and no swords. Only the maiden's kiss on the hilts, no sword that tilts and your words always in my thoughts.

I'll miss you so much.

Schrodinger's Cat is one of the great novels of the 20th Century. Cosmic Trigger opened my eyes. Promethus Rising made me see my potential, and gave me the means to fulfill it. Bob, I hope you are with your wife. I send my love to you.

I love you. My friends love you. You have affected all of our lives as we will continue to affect those we love. Thank you for all of your work and for all of your honesty. It took another friend to point out that I had a guru. A modern hero I can look up to. I thank you for what you have provided me. Your optimism turned many lives around. I feel like I lost a very, very close friend. We all did.

peace, love and forgiveness,

In the universe next door we choose to imagine Robert Anton Wilson walking arm in arm with his wife and his daughter Patricia Luna in an orchard of noon blue apples framed by the dazzling LUX of the infinite light..

RAW was always my favourite teacher in the invisible college. Its been 23 years (of course it just had to be) since i picked up the Illuminatus at the tender age of 15 and I cannot imagine a life without the lessons RAW taught me.

Nothing to clutch in life.
Nothing to fear in death.

Indeed.

I hoped to meet you in the flesh some day, but being stuck on the opposite side of the planet, I left it too long. Now I must content myself with the wisdom you committed to paper.

The world is a poorer, colder, sadder, crueler, and above all, stupider place for your passing. Those of us who remain will do what we can to carry the light, but one of the true giants of this world has left us. It will take many, many pygmies to fill those shoes.

Hail Eris. All hail Discordia. The next one I smoke will be for you, Old Man.

Just saw this now - Bob passes as the world stands up to one of the world's most biggest symbols of oppression (Guantánamo Bay). I'm shocked and saddened that the world has lost one of its finest minds, but maybe in passing Bob will be recognised for what he was. Fare thee well, great teacher, and keep the afterlife bright for us that follow you.

I first read Bob in GREEN EGG, back in the early 70's. Then Illuminatus! came out... I gave away so many copies of that book.

For over 30 years, Bob's wit, wisdom and sheer intelligence has lit the darkness of my world, and that of many of my friends. We are all so much richer for the fractals Bob magickly created --and placed in our heads. He was and is unique, in taking ideas apart and putting them back together in new and novel ways, for never taking anything at face value and laughing all the way. He was the thinking person's writer-hero. The pagan and magickal world has lost the greatest thinker since Crowley.

Someone else, on another blog, noted how amusing that the LA Times, which ran Bob's obituary over 10 years ago, didn't notice when he died, this time for real.

'Every man and every woman is a star', but Bob burns so much brighter many couldn't even look.

Hail Eris! Hail Robert Anton Wilson!
